Melvin J. Frey, 80 years, of Columbus passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.
Private family funeral services will be held on Monday, December 21, 2009 at the Zeidler Funeral Home in Columbus with Rev. Robert V. Moberg officiating.
Melvin was born the son of Daniel and Ada B. (Heideman) Frey on August 2, 1929 in the Tn. of Elba, WI. He was married to Lavina M. Allsage on November 5, 1949 at the Allsage home in Fall River.
Melvin was a 1947 graduate of Fall River High School. He was a lifelong farmer and purebred hog producer in the Columbus and Fall River areas. Melvin enjoyed attending hog shows and sales. He was particularly proud of his achievement of exhibiting and selling the top selling boar at the 1978 National Duroc Type Conference in Minnesota. Melvin also enjoyed working with his Holstein cattle. He especially took great joy in his grandchildren and great-grandson.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lavina of Columbus; his children: Maurice (fianc饠Karen Uhlman) Frey of Columbus, Keith (Sharon) Frey of Columbus, Patti (Rick) Johnson of Columbus, and his former daughter-in-law: Patricia Frey of Beaver Dam; his three sisters: Marian Bork of Beaver Dam, Arlene (Robert) Gretzinger of Washington State, and Loretta Ward of Beaver Dam; six grandchildren: Andrew Frey, Vicki (Stu) Herbst, Eric Carney, Michael Frey, Nicole Johnson, and Ashley Johnson; one great-grandson Dylan Herbst; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
