Michael J. Benninger, age 71, of Fort Worth, TX passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
The graveside service for Michael will be held at Evangelical and Reformed Cemetery in Reeseville, WI on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Carrie Schuett officiating.
Michael was born on November 8, 1952, in Wisconsin to Harris and Lillian (Kovalaske) Benninger. He graduated from Lowell-Reeseville High School in 1970 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1974. He played for and was dedicated to his beloved Badger Football team for four years of college but truly for his lifetime. His love of the game led him to play for 15 more years as a member of several Wisconsin semi-pro football teams. He relocated to Texas to pursue teaching in several Texas Independent School Districts along with continuing his other passion: security work for the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, and Dallas Stars to name just a few of the leagues and venues who valued his services for decades.
Michael is survived by five siblings: Marian Joss of Jefferson, IA; Rita Benninger of Chandler, AZ; Liane (True) Carr of Scottsdale, AZ; Roger (Sharon Paluk-Benninger) Benninger of Tucson, AZ; and Arlene Vokes of Wesley Chapel, FL. He also has many surviving nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and colleagues who will miss him.

So very sad to hear of Mike's passing. MB was a roommate, a teammate and a friend. He always gave 110% effort on every play and in every practice and he was so very proud to be a University of Wisconsin Badger football player. We will miss him, but I promise to toast his memory with fellow teammates this fall.

Our condolences to the Benninger Family. Michael may have been the only athlete my father ever coached that went on to play at a division 1 school. I met Michael and Roger on a football field in Reeseville many years ago as coach's kid. The last time I saw Michael was at the middle school in Reeseville. He was subbing in Phy. Ed. and I was teaching there. I just had time to say hello. When my sister Cheryl passed away four years ago, It was nice to see that Michael had posted a very nice note to her Memory Page. He was the only one from those years to do so. He said she was a very supportive friend while they were in high school, and that she took after her dad. It meant a lot to our family, and it also told me he still checked in on his ties to Wisconsin. Again, our condolences to your entire family. Kent and Brenda Saugstad
