Michael Thomas Moreton, age 88, of Neenah, Wisconsin, left us peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
The family will be celebrating Michael’s life at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 434 North Main Street, in Cottage Grove, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. There will be a gathering at church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 with Fr. Chad Droessler officiating. Inurnment will be at the church cemetery, following Mass.
Michael was born on August 14, 1936, in Buffalo, New York, to Albert and Ann (Hughes) Moreton. He was united in marriage to Melverne Allen and they were blessed with two children.
Michael was in the United States Airforce and spent much of his time learning the mechanics of planes. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix and became a very skilled engineer.
Michael lived a life rich in adventure and connection, traveling the world as an electrical engineer with Goshalt and Gilmans. His career took him to various plants across the globe, but he always made it a point to share these experiences with his family, often inviting one of his cherished grandchildren to accompany him on his journeys. These trips became treasured memories, filled with laughter and discovery.
A man who valued health and fitness, Michael was dedicated to maintaining an active lifestyle. He found joy in regular exercise and was a familiar face in his aerobics class, where he formed lasting friendships. His love for bowling and playing sheepshead brought him much happiness, and he was known for his infectious humor and warm personality.
At his residence home, Michael was affectionately known as “Papa Mike,” a testament to the love and respect he garnered from those around him. He had a special fondness for chocolate milk balls and jelly beans, which he enjoyed sharing with friends and family alike.
Michael’s legacy is one of kindness, laughter, and adventure. He leaves behind a loving family and a community that will miss his vibrant spirit. He is survived by his children, Toni Qualmann (Dale Anton) of Waupun, and Robert (Ruth) Moreton of Buena Vista, AR; grandchildren, Justin Qualmann, Shonda (Dwayne) Nedd, Rachel (Tyson) Zarnstorff, and Russell (Brandi) Moreton; 12 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; sister, Nancy Croz; brother, Henry Moreton; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Melverne; son-in-law, Robert Qualmann; grandson, Jeremy Qualmann; nephew, Mark Fare; and many siblings.
