Betty grew up in Greenbush, WI. She was a strong independent woman in a time when it was not typical, attending college and starting a career prior to marrying Ervin Behnke in 1951.
Betty was a kindergarten teacher in Berlin, Phillips, and Horicon, WI for many years. She created many traditions for her students, showing each of them how special they were, including creating holiday clay handprints and countdown strips with them.
She proudly added the role of a supportive military wife, meeting the demands of military life with strength, grace, and unwavering commitment. She dedicated her life to her family raising two children and showed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren what it meant to love unconditionally.
She was an avid Packer and Brewer fan and enjoyed spending time with her family at their cottage on Kangaroo Lake. Betty had strong faith and was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon, WI. She enjoyed traveling and had a love for supporting the arts, especially dance.
Betty is survived by her son, Fred (Nancy) Behnke of Chicago, IL; her daughter Kris (Larry) Weber of Venice, FL and Baileys Harbor, WI; her grandchildren Daniel (Allison Vaid) Behnke, Marilu (Eric Shea) Behnke, Stacey (Jason) Duellman, Emily (Jeff) Buhnerkempe; her great-grandchildren Dalila and Adeline Behnke, Hailey and Caleb Duellman, and Aaron and Mason Buhnerkempe; and her sister Jane (Jim) Anderson of Green Bay and Baileys Harbor, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Sylvia (Leverenz) Hartig, her husband Ervin “Erv” Behnke, her grandson Andy Weber, and her in-laws David Linsky and Janice (Harry and Donald Schneider) Bruskewitz.

I will always remember the time she spilled tomato juice on her white skirt while our principal was talking. Everyone heard her yell out OH SHIT! My sympathy to her family.
