Neiel Peter Gilbert, age 76, of Mayville, passed away on September 7, 2026 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
A Celebration of life for Neiel will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Mayville Golf Course, located at 325 S. German St. Mayville, WI 53050.
Born on July 26, 1950, in Loyal, Wisconsin, Neiel was the beloved son of Milford and Violet (Miller) Gilbert. A man of exceptional dedication and work ethic, Neiel spent 50 years working at Metalcraft of Mayville as a Quality Control Technician. He took immense pride in his career, achieving the milestone of being the very first employee in the company’s history to reach 50 years of service.
Beyond his career, Neiel was a true craftsman and an all-around handyman. He had a genuine passion for woodworking and was always happiest when lending a helping hand on someone else’s project. Whether fixing, building, or solving a problem, his generosity and skill touched many lives. In his free time. Neiel was an avid golfer and bowler, and he loved a competitive game of bags. Above all else, he cherished every moment spent surrounded by his family.
Neiel was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jewel, and together they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage, building a warm legacy of love and family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Jewel; his children: Corey (Sheila) Gilbert and Candi (Dave) Quimby; his grandsons: Andrew (Morgan) Powers and Alex Powers; and his great-grandchildren: Maddox, Delilah, and Beckett Powers.He is further survived by his brothers: Philip (Sharon) Gilbert and Dale (Kathy) Gilbert; his sisters: Ruth Bruesewitz and Debbie Gilbert; his sister-in-law Minnie Gilbert; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ronnie (Judy) Krohn, Paulette (Dennis) Anderson, Paul (Arlene) Krohn, Sandi (Warren) Sjoman, and Donna Krohn; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Neiel was preceded in death by his parents Milford and Violet Gilbert; his parents-in-law Arlie and Beatrice Krohn; his brothers: Nathan (Alice) Gilbert, Allen Gilbert and Jonathan Gilbert; his sister Janet Waldner; and his brothers-in-law Jim Waldner and Fred Bruesewitz. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws: Ardis (Lonnie) Officer, Dave Krohn, Wayne (Marsha) Krohn, Judy Krohn, Sally (Jim) Sweet, Lyle Krohn, and Scott Krohn.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the nurses and CNAs on 5 West at St. Agnes Hospital for their compassionate care and support during Neiel’s stay.
