Norbert Clarence Schulz

Norbert C. Schulz, age 78, of Reeseville, passed away at his home surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, December 9, 2008.

The visitation for Norbert will be on Friday, December 12, 2008 at Murray Funeral Home in Reeseville from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The Reeseville American Legion Post #190, the Schoenwetter-Frase VFW Post #9392 and the Reeseville Fire Department is invited to walk through at 6:00 PM. There will also be a visitation on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Reeseville from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The funeral service will follow on Saturday at the church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Donald Steinberg officiating. Burial will be at Reeseville Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion and the VFW.

Norbert was born on April 7, 1930 in the Town of York, Dane County, Wisconsin, to Clarence E. and Lenora (Schoenherr) Schulz. He was a 1948 graduate of Reeseville High School, then entered the US Army in 1951 during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Cpl. Norbert was stationed in Alaska until 1954. On September 29, 1956 he was united in marriage with Phyllis Ann Etscheid. In 1954, Norbert and his father, Clarence, purchased Bussewitz Motors in Reeseville and changed the name to Schulz Motors. Clarence retired in 1968 and Norbert took on a new partner, Robert Bussewitz, who was the son of the original owner, Harley Bussewitz. They worked together until Norbert retired in 1995. Norbert was part owner of Schulz Motors in Reeseville for 41 years. He was very active in many organizations in and around Reeseville. Norbert was a volunteer fireman for Reeseville for 58 years, named fire fighter of the year in 1998 for his 50 years of service. Norbert held office in Reeseville American Legion Post #190 as Commander and Adjutant for almost 50 years and was a member of the 40/8. Other offices included secretary of Reeseville Chamber of Commerce, secretary of Reeseville Fire Dept., Park Board Chairman, and many years of faithful service to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Reeseville, holding several offices including president, treasurer, trustee and elder. He loved to bowl and was in the Reeseville league for over 40 years. Norbert also loved hunting, fishing, and was an avid gardener, donating potatoes to the Immanuel Lutheran Church for many years. After retirement, Norbert and his wife Phyllis enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, watching the packers and spending time with children and grandchildren.

Norbert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis of Reeseville, step-mother, Gladys Schulz of Reeseville, children, Terry (Renee) Schulz of Necedah, Hal (Monica) Schulz of Oshkosh and Kay Schulz of Madison. Grandchildren include Nicole (Derek) Pasquan and Elliot Schulz of Waupun, Austin, Brennen and Carson Schulz of Oshkosh, step-grandchildren, Bryan Bethe and Anna Dengel of Necedah, great-grandchildren, Dalton and Rose Pasquan of Waupun, sisters-in-law, Carol (Donald) Wolfgram of Lake Mills and Marie (Russell) Loeffler of Watertown, brother-in-law, Merlin Etscheid of Watertown, other relatives and friends. Norbert was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Donald Etscheid.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the Hillside Hospice Care for the excellent care and to family and friends in the Village of Reeseville for all their thoughts and prayers.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Norbert”s name to Immanuel Lutheran Church or to the Reeseville Fire Department.

If and when the good Lord calls my name to come home, I believe there will be 2 souls at the gates, St. Peter and Norbert, he greeted all who came into church with a smile on his face no matter what the weather or happenings going on around him. Norbert was the most faithful man I ever known. When I get to the gates it will bless my soul when he says to me "Welcome Home" For now he is truly at peace, his tired hands at rest, it will be up to us now, to try to carry on his ways and do the rest. God be with you Phyllis, Terry, Hal and Kay the emptiness may be here but his memory will last your lifetime!

Terry, Renee, Bryan, and Anna, Jim and I are truly sorry about the lost or your father and Grandfather. Even thought we only had the pleasure of meeting him a few times, we could see what a wonderful man he was. First by the love he had for his family, friends and community, which only a man with god in his heart could express with such grace. Norbert and Phyllis are a rare find, and I''m so thankful Jim and I were bless with their friendship even if it was such a short period time, and with having their wonderful son as our brother in-law. Terry may god be with you and and your family during this difficult time.

I have so many fond memories of Norbert. He will be greatly missed by so many. From as early as I can remember going down to the station, he was always there with a smile on his face or chewing on his cigar. He would stop what he was doing to say "Hi CB". Anytime someone came in with a question, there was no hesitation for him to always help them out. I will also miss seeing him fry up the brats for the corn roast. He was always there, rain or shine. My condolences to Phyllis, Terry, Hal and Kay. I am so sorry for your loss. This year has been so sad for both of our families. I know that if my dad were here he would have wonderful things to say about his business partner and friend. He had great respect for Norbert and I know he meant so much to him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during your difficult time.
