Norb “Nubs” Straseski, 76 years and 7 days, of Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam, after a lengthy bout with prostate and bone cancer.
The visitation will be at Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The American Legion is invited to walk through at 5:00 PM. There will also be a visitation at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 511 S. Spring St., in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with Fr. Jerome Rinzel officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael”s Cemetery, Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin. The American Legion Post #146 will present military honors.
Norbert Peter Straseski was born on June 25, 1933, in Beaver Dam, to Leonard and Martha (Glassman) Straseski. During his high school years, Norb was known as the “Ace Miler” for the Beaver Dam track and cross country teams. He was a two-time Little 10 Conference champion and qualified for the Wisconsin state tournament two times, earning a fourth place finish in his final high school event (the first five runners finished within 10 yards of each other). He held the high school record of 4.38.9 until the early 1980”s.
In 1952, Norb enlisted in the US Navy and completed his training in July of 1952, at the US Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL. After training, he served during the Korean War/Conflict on the USS Missouri. Norb worked at Metalfab in Beaver Dam for 44 years. After his retirement be became a school crossing guard for Beaver Dam until resigning due to his illness in 2008. He was actively involved in the Knights of Columbus and also belonged to the American Legion. Many of you may have seen him walking (not running) around town as this was one of his favorite pastimes.
Norb is survived by his wife of 53 years, Celine, daughter of Theodore and Clara Yerges. They married May 12, 1956. He is also survived by daughters, Judy Morrissey, and Jeanette Powell, a son-in-law, Chris Morrissey, all of Beaver Dam, four grandchildren, Shawn, Megan, Jacob, and Tanner, great grandchildren, Derek, Brandon, and Gavin, a brother, Leo (Janet) Straseski of Sussex, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Susan Marie Straseski, sister, Mary Keller, and two brothers, Jerome and Joseph.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Norbert P. Straseski”s name to Hillside HomeCare / Hospice, 709 S. University Avenue, Beaver Dam, WI 53916.
