Norman V. Zirbel, 91, a resident of the Mayville Nursing and Rehab. Center, and formerly of Juneau and Horicon passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Aurora Medical Center in Hartford.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Juneau with Rev. Paul Hirsch officiating. A visitation will also be held on Sunday, November 28th from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the church. Interment will take place at Highland Memory Gardens, township of Trenton, with graveside military honors conducted by the John E. Miller American Legion Post 146 of Beaver Dam.
Norman was born the son of Reinhardt and Emma (Zuehlke) Zirbel on March 27, 1919 in Williamstown, WI. Norman attended Woodland school. He later served his country in the United States Army from July 31, 1944 until December 12, 1945 as a rifleman. During that time, Norman was awarded the Purple Heart. Afterwards, he was married to Erna C. Frank on March 2, 1946 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville. From 1946 until 1955, Norman farmed full time in the Horicon area, and later farmed part-time and was employed with John Deere Works of Horicon from 1955 until his retirement in 1981. Norman was a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Juneau, and a member of the Mayville VFW.
Norman is survived by his wife Erna C. V. Zirbel of Horicon, his daughters: Donna (Phil) Erickson of Watertown, Ann (Dale) Hammann of Horicon, Luann (Jack Eller) DeVos of Omro, and Dorothy Reak of Omro; his son David (Joanne) Zirbel of Lowell; his sister Vera Schmidt of Hustisford; his brothers: Marlen (Gloria) Zirbel of Horicon and Vilas Zirbel of Iron Ridge; his sister-in-law Marlene Zirbel of Iron Ridge; 10 grandchildren: Christine DeVos, Trisha (Dan) Kastein, Terry (Randy) Hupf, Scott (Debra) Southard, David (Lynn) Zirbel, Julie (Don) Reagan, Daniel Zirbel, Nathan Erickson, Melissa Hammann, and Corey Hammann; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; friends, and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Ervin, Donald, and Ronald, his sister Arline Bensley, son-in-law Eugene Reak, grandchildren: Theodore Southard and Thomas Southard, sisters-in-law: Andrea Zirbel and Lillian Zirbel, and brothers-in-law: Paul Schmidt and Clarence Bensley.
