Visitation: Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 22nd at 3 pm until the time of Mass at the church.
Norman W. Sabel, 92, W3233 County Trunk Y, Lomira, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at St. Francis Home, Fond du Lac,
A Mass of Christian burial will be on Wednesday, April 22 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, LeRoy at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will be on Wednesday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Leroy from 3 p.m. until the 5:30 time of service. The Revs. Tom Biersack and Robert Berghammer will officiate. Inurnment will be at St. Andrew’s cemetery. Military rites will be by Lomira American Legion Post 347. Memorials may be made to St. Andrew’s Restoration Fund.
Norman was born on Oct. 16, 1916 in Taycheedah, to Joseph and Anna (Kiefenheim) Sabel. On May 6, 1941 he was united in marriage with Elizabeth C. Feucht at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, LeRoy.
He farmed for 11 years in the town of LeRoy; drove bus for the Mayville school district; worked at the LeRoy Locker for 30 years; worked at St. Agnes Hospital; was custodian for 23 years for St. Andrew’s Parish, LeRoy and was a maintenance engineer for Maysteel, Allenton until his retirement in 1981.
Norman was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, LeRoy; St. Joseph’s Society; Holy Name Society; Lomira American Legion Post 347; Knights of Columbus Council 8817, Mayville; Veteran of Foreign Wars. He served in the U.S. Army from July 1943 until Dec. 7, 1945 during World War II at Camp Edwards in Massachusetts, Long Island, N.Y., Liverpool, England, Omaha Beach Head, France; Gendt, Belgium, Battle of the Bulge, Germany. On Jan. 7, 1944, he was hit by a buzz bomb with nine dead, 69 casualties and he received a purple heart and four battle scars.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth C. Sabel; his children, Joseph (Betty), Quinney; Michael (Mardell), LeRoy, Dennis (Joann), Fond du Lac, Norman G. (Mary), Mayville; Anna (Henry) Way, Kewaskum, Duane (Jan), Mayville, Gerard (Linda), LeRoy, Roseann (Art) Bredeson, LeRoy; brothers, Ervin (Agnes) Sabel, Fond du Lac, Ralph (Alice) Sabel, Fond du Lac; two sisters-in-law, Vi Sabel, St. Cloud, Marie Sabel, Fond du Lac; brothers-in-law, Henry Feucht, Milwaukee, Albert (Alieta) Feucht, West Bend; 22 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna (Kiefenheim) Sabel; three brothers, Raymond, Gregory, Anthony and one grandson, Dale Sabel.
