MADISON, Wis. – Opal Lucille Pankow, 85, of Madison, and formerly of Mayville, Wis., and Cape Coral, Fla., died on Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at her home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 2:30 p.m., at Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville. The Rev. Geoffrey Hoy will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Mayville. Friends may call on Tuesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Opal was born on Feb. 6, 1923, in Minnesota, the daughter of Frank and Lottie (Severson) Reabe. She was married to Harley Pankow on Nov. 9, 1946, at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Mayville.
During World War II, Opal worked in Milwaukee making superchargers for the Allis Chalmers Corp. After the war, she moved to Mayville, where she worked for the Wisconsin Bell Telephone Co. She enjoyed many summers at Middle Cormorant Lake in Lake Park, Minn., running Pankow’s Resort with her family. She moved to Cape Coral, Fla., in 1975, where she was active in Christ Lutheran Church, the local German-American Club and the Sons of Norway. She moved to Madison in 2005. Opal was a kindhearted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. You are my sunshine.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Harley; two children, Sharon (Mark) Webb, Madison, and Jeryi (Guy) Amason, Lawrenceville, Ga.; son-in-law, Steve Ellis, Ft. Meyers, Fla; sister, Jeanette (Elmer) Steger; brothers, Roy (Helen) Reabe, and Gordon (Ruth) Reabe; grandchildren, Kristin (Chris) Awtrey, Melissa Wheatman, Nicole Amason, Brian Ellis, Robert Webb, Amanda Webb and Jennifer Webb; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Jacquelyn Ellis; sisters, Helen (Frank) Scharnell and Fern (Norbert) Justman, and brother, Lawrence (Eleanor) Severson.
