Reinhardt “Reinie” Kiesow, age 79, of Horicon, went to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday May 13, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Visitation for Reinie Kiesow will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2009, at the Murray Funeral Home in Horicon, from 1 PM to 5 PM. Visitation will be held again on Monday, at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church in Horicon from 10 AM until the time of the service. The service will follow on Monday, at church, at 11 AM, with Rev. Jonathan Szczcsny officiating. Burial will be in the Oakhill Cemetery with Military Graveside Services conducted by the Horicon American Legion Post #157.

Reinhardt Carl Herman Kiesow was born on December 23, 1929, in Horicon, to August and Lydia (Drews) Kiesow. On June 20, 1959, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Pieper Erdman at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church in Horicon. Reinie was a lifelong resident of Horicon. He graduated from Horicon High School in 1947. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War on the USS Midway. Reinie was a member of the Horicon American Legion Post #157 for over 50 years. He served as an alderman for eight years and was a Horicon Firefighter for over 35 years and for six of those years he was the Fire Chief. He also served as the President of the Dodge County Fire Chiefs Association. Reinie worked at John Deere Horicon Works for many years and served as the president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of Local Union #873 and also served as shop steward. Reinie was a lifelong member of St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church in Horicon and served on the church council, president of the congregation, was a trustee, served on the finance committee and was past president of the PTL. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, and spending time with his grand and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his two daughters, SueAnn (Don L.) Snyder of Horicon, Sara (Don) Beck-Counard of Horicon, three granddaughters, Brandi (Van) Nguyen, Jerae (Peter) Hanson and Ashley Beck, grandson, Thomas Counard, great grandson, Chase Nguyen, and two great granddaughters, Cadence Hanson and Kenna Nguyen. AFS daughter, Rita (Paul) Davey and their children, Kirstie, Robert and Cameron of Australia. Three brothers, Norman (June) Kiesow of Horicon, Orville (Pearl) Kiesow of Ocala, FL, and Donald Kiesow of Orlando, FL, sister, Lorraine Byington of Madison, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Reinie is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn on October 5, 2005, and two brothers, Arthur and Marvin.

I just wanted to let you know how sorry I was to hear about the passing of your dad . I remember him as being such a nice man and a great friend to my dad . I remember all the summers that your family would come down and visit us in VA . Those are very special memories of happy times .
