Richard “Dick” L. Eckes Sr., 81, of Waupun, Wisconsin passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at his home.
A memorial gathering for Dick will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kyle Witek officiating. Inurnment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Richard was born on May 16, 1943 the son of Arthur and Leona (Boehnig) Eckes. He was a graduate of Bayfield High School and received and Associates Degree in drafting and engineering. Dick had been employed as a maintenance welder for John Deere for over 30 years.
Dick was a devoted fan of classic country music and enjoyed the voices of George Jones and Hank Williams. Whether attending local events with live music or sharing stories—sometimes the same one more than once—he always brought a smile and a sense of humor to those around him.
Dick deeply cherished his family and loved spending time with his grandsons and great granddaughters. He also enjoyed fishing with family. Dick was an avid collector of angels and saw the beauty in them. He was known for his thriftiness, social spirit and his gift of storytelling. Friends and family will always remember his laughter, endless jokes and how proudly he declared his left-handedness.
Dick will be deeply missed by his son Richard (Sandra) Eckes of Beaver Dam; grandsons: Brandon (Monica) Eckes, Dustin Eckes and Angel De La Cruz; great granddaughters: Amaria Jean and Rylinn Paige Eckes; his step-daughter Barb (Jay) Rosenthal of Fond du Lac; his brother Darrell (Aloha) Eckes of Wausau; his sisters: Diane Richards and Kathy Hogan both of Sheboygan and sister-in-law Joan Eckes. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Marlene Lapinski and Nancy Felch, step son Jack Rose and longtime companion Diane Giese.
