Richard L. Thurow, age 53, was called on across the Universe, on Friday, March 28, 2024 at Aurora Medical Center in Summit.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the American Legion, 300 Beichl Ave., Beaver Dam, WI 53916. Visitation will start at 4 pm with a service at 5:30 pm.
Rick was born on March 25, 1971 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin to Joyce Thurow and Dexter Watson. He was raised in the Oconomowoc area, making many friends along the way. Rick was a mentor to many throughout his 53 years of life. He worked at schools as a substitute and mentor for students and for group homes caring for residents. Rick thoroughly enjoyed music of all kinds. He often would take his little brother to concerts near and far. Rick’s hobby was drumming, and he would use anything around him as a drum. Other interests included reading, camping, and telling a good story. Rick was always the life of the party, good for a laugh, and quick to have a witty comeback. A big part of Rick’s life was getting support and being supported in NA and AA. He especially found support with The Ohana Group and cherished the people he met through there. Rick loved his family and friends very much and was grateful for the time he was able to spend with them.
Rick is survived by his mother, Joyce Thurow of Dalton; his step-father, Michael Beckwith of Kingston; brother, Joel (Nora) Beckwith of Beaver Dam; and Missy Beckwith (Timm Achterberg) of Neshkoro; aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and his best friend uncle, Earl Thurow.

Over the years I have met very few people who love music like my cousin Rick. I have some great chlidhood memories of hanging out with Rick. When we were young we would talk about and listen to music all the time and we would debate who was better Rush, who Rick loved, or Van Halen who I loved. I regret never seeing Rush with my cousin and when I listen to them I always think of Rick.
I remember when my oldest daugher met Rick about 15 years ago and how much she enoyed talking to him and Rick's sense of humor. I miss you Rick!

My sincere condolences to Ricks family and friends. I met Rick a little more than a year ago virtually at a meeting based out of Hawaii. He quickly became a member of our virtual family and shared his experience, strength and hope with all of us. He was always willing to help whomever was in need. I consider myself very lucky to have been able to call him a friend. He will be missed by his Hawaii Ohana family.
