Rita J. Schmidt, 88, of Beaver Dam passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at her home.
Rita was born on May 20, 1937 to Arthur and Lucille (Feucht) Weiglein. She was married to James Schmidt on August 6, 1955 in Leroy, WI. In 1963, Rita and James moved to the township of Westford to their family farm where she helped with farm chores. Rita cooked at both Cambria Crossroads and the Beaver Dam Raceway. She took pride in cooking for her family and for the holidays. Rita enjoyed wildlife and watching the deer. She was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Beaver Dam.
Rita is survived by her sons: Dale Schmidt of Beaver Dam, Marvin (Laury) Schmidt of Beaver Dam, Dennis Schmidt of Beaver Dam, and David Schmidt of Oxford, WI; grandchildren: Bradley (Jennifer) Schmidt, Matthew (Rebecca) Schmidt, Amanda Schmidt, and Kyle Schmidt; great grandchildren: Hunter, Abigail, Mackenzie, Natalie, and Oakley; three sisters: Lucille (Gordon) Becker, Alice Krutke, and Joyce Stommel; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James in 1999; brothers: Richard and Arthur Weiglein Jr.; and great grandson Carter.
A visitation will be held at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Deacon Ed Cody will officiate. Interment will take place at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Beaver Dam.
