Robert “Bob” E. Evans, Lt. Col. USAF, Retired, took his final flight on July 8, 2008, at age 85, in California.
Robert Eugene Evans was born on August 30, 1922, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. He entered the United States Air Force on September 15, 1942, receiving many decorations and awards throughout his military career. While in the service, his assignments included; Berlin Airlift, Thule Greenland Air Sea Rescue SA-16s (Albert the Albatross), Mather Air Force Base Training Command, and his favorite, Fiji, Air Sea Rescue. He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1965. Bob was a long time member of the Sacramento Lost Chord Cancer Club.
Bob is survived by his wife, Dottie, his daughters, Kathy Mansfield and Stacy Evans, his grandchildren, Bobbi Miller, Sarah Williams, and Jacob Sallaz, his great grandchildren, Austin and Alison Williams, one sister, Evelyn Hankes, nieces and nephew, Mary, Trish and Bill, other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Bob will be held on Friday, July 11, 2008 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Nicoletti, Culjis and Herberger Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento, CA, with a rosary at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary”s Catholic Church, Sacramento, CA. Burial will take place on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael”s Cemetery, Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin with Fr. Jerome Rinzel officiating. The John E. Miller American Legion Post #146 will provide military honors.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Bob”s name to the Veterans Origination, the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of choice.
