Russell Port, age 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Randolph Health Services.
Russell Louis Port was born on April 13, 1946, in Waupun, Wisconsin to Elmer and Viola (Beyer) Port. On August 27, 1966, he was united in marriage with Annette Webster in Juneau, Wisconsin. Russ worked at Montgomery Ward as the Assistant Store Manager for 15 years. He sold commercial business insurance for 15 years at Port Reliable Insurance in Duluth, Minnesota. During his retirement, Russ drove a school bus and managed a miniature golf course in Superior, Wisconsin.
Russ was known as the wiseacre to all who came across him. He always had a joke to tell. His favorite jokes were about Ole and Lena, religion, or any joke that would be considered inappropriate. His favorite past times were playing cribbage (trying to skunk everyone), watching old western shows, and reading books about the Civil War. Russ also liked to golf in his spare time, as well as hunting and fishing. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Russ is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Annette; children, Eva (Darrin) Berg of Duluth, MN, Jason (Angelica) Port of Las Vegas, NV, and Ben (Lori) Port of Minnetrista, MN; grandchildren, Gina (Brady) Halvorson of Bessemer, MI, Annie Sanchez of Powhatan, VA, Austin Berg of Duluth, MN, and Dylan Berg of Duluth, MN, Jacob (Emma) Port of Woodbury, MN, Sydney Port of Chicago, IL, Grace Port of Minneapolis, MN, Mariah Port of Minnetrista, MN, and Calista Port of Minnetrista, MN; six great-grandchildren; brother and sister, Gordon (Justine) Port and Karen Kohn-Knueppel; nieces and nephews; and many other wonderful relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation honoring Russ will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Inurnment will follow at North Burnett Cemetery, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
