Sheryl Ann Schabel, 60, of Columbus passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at her home.
Sheryl was born October 31, 1962 to Douglas and Joyce (Schnelle) Meshke in New London, WI. She was a 1981 graduate of Hartford High School. She attended UW-Whitewater and later UW-Madison. Sheryl was employed as a high school administrative assistant with the Madison School District since 1988. She was married to Andrew Schabel on August 25, 2012 at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Columbus.
Sheryl was a member of St. Jerome Parish in Columbus where she was active in adult bible study. She sang with the Milwaukee Mercy Choir and was able to travel to Rome and sing for the Pope in 2016. She was the secretary and volunteer for the Pregnancy Helpline, Inc. of Madison. Sheryl was a founding board member and volunteer with Healing Horsemanship Foundation. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing and traveling and most recently traveling out west with her grandchildren.
Sheryl is survived by her husband Andy; their children: Hershel (Jamie) Miller, Dorothea (Kevin) Janisch, Christina Stanek (special friend Mike), Bradley Schabel, Justine (Bryce) Toles, Erica Stanek (special friend Tarl), and Nicholas Schabel (fiancée Justine); grandchildren: Katelynn Miller, Max Milawski, Benjamin Milawski, Caleb Muhasky, Zachary Stanek, Eli Miller, Jason Toles, Gigi Miller, Elizabeth Warne, Torvius Olsen, Lucas Clyde, and Xander Toles; her siblings: Debra Meshke, Pamela (Richard) Schinigoi, and Kevin (Natasha) Meshke; her mother-in-law Janice Schabel; siblings-in-law: Jennifer (Gerard) Schraufnagel, Christopher (Maria) Schabel, Heide (Jeff) Cords, Benjamin Schabel, and Samantha (Greg) Tennies; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father Alfred Niemeier; fathers-in-law: James Stanek and Robert Schabel; her former spouse David Stanek; and grandson Cameron Stanek.
A visitation will be held at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Columbus on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow 12 p.m. at the church with Fr. Grant Theis presiding. Inurnment will take place at Ostrander-Northport Cemetery, Northport, WI at a later date.
