Shirley M. Knudson, 90, of Columbus passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at her home.

Shirley was born the daughter of Christian and Josephine (Paepke) Von Behren on December 12, 1931 at her family’s home outside of Sauk City, WI. She was a graduate of Sauk City High School. Shirley was married to Edwin C. Knudson on June 27, 1953 in Sauk City. Shirley began her working career as plant secretary for Oscar Mayer in Madison. She later became the Zion Lutheran church and school secretary. Shirley retired from First National Bank in Columbus as an Assistant Vice President after many years of service.

Shirley was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus where she was active with the Ladies Aid. She also was a member of the local Homemakers group. She volunteered her time with the Columbus Community Hospital and was a longtime blood donor. Shirley enjoyed golfing and motorcycle rides with her husband Edwin. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life.

Shirley is survived by her children: Linda Knudson Lind of Chattanooga, TN and Ronald (Susan) Knudson of Sun Prairie; four grandchildren: Rebecca (Eric) Brooks, Jackie (Jamie) Price, Kasey (Steve) Bader, and Jamie (Eric) Knudson Weigen; eight great grandchildren: Kaylee, Gavin, James, Lilly, Rickey, Edward, Ruby, and Willow; her brother Rod (Jackie) Von Behren of Waunakee; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edwin in 2019; brothers: Lyle, Alan, and Dale; and her sister Joan.

A private funeral service will be held at the Koepsell-Zeidler Funeral Home in Columbus. Interment will take place at Spring Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, Keyeser, WI.

My sincere condolences to Ron and the Knudson family

I worked with Shirley at First National Bank, many years ago. Although we only worked together a few years, we stayed in touch over the years. She was a dear friend, and I'm so saddened to hear of her passing. She was a very special woman. My deepest condolences to your entire family.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Shirley. My sympathy to the Knudson family. Many of my memories of Shirley and Ed are of our many early morning visits on the Columbus Country Club golf course.. We would meet out there almost every week-day morning, either at the cart barn or on one of the holes, and compare our games, and have a laugh or two. I looked forward to it each day. It was a part of our round of golf ! In fact my last golf meeting with Shirley was last summer when I talked her into sitting on one of the tees with me and take care of a hole-in-one event at the annual Hospital Golf outing on Kestrel Ridge-- -on a hole right near her River Rd. home. Shirley was fun to be with and will be greatly missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time. Emogene Johnson

To Linda & Family, I am so sorry to learn of your mom's illness and passing. She was a great friend and neighbor. I did not get to see her that much but when I did, we always had a great conversation. Shirley had a great sense of humor that i always enjoyed. My sympathy to all. I am sorry that I have not expressed my sympathy to you personally, but my back is giving me a really bad time, so I could not get over to see you. I worked with Shirley for the past 15 years as a volunteer at the hospital in Columbus. We saw each other often when I first began volunteering. She was a funny, special, kind woman. I enjoyed visiting with her so much and I will miss seeing her. My sympathies to her family.

Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

So sorry for your loss. Our Condo group was so happy when Shirley moved in. Shirley was a kind yet fun loving person. I worked with her at the First National Bank. We will miss her but I know that she is out of pain and the Good Lord and Eddie have welcomed her with open arms. Prayers to her family Joy Vander Sanden
