William R. Coffman Sr., age 78, passed away peacefully in hospice care on Nov. 18, 2023.
Bill was born the son of William H. and Ruth (Rowe) Coffman on Jan. 13, 1945, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He graduated from Mayville High School in 1963 and UW-Oshkosh in 1968. On June 11, 1966, he was united in marriage to Faye Engel at St. Mary’s church in Mayville, Wisconsin. Bill retired due to disability from Mayville Engineering Company as vice president of manufacturing in 1990.
Bill was known for his love of motorcycles and radio-controlled airplanes, and for his ability to fix almost anything with hot glue and solder. His sense of humor was remarkable and was evident as he played tennis in his form-fitting “health club reject” T-shirt, accentuated with a bucket hat. When Bill wasn’t enjoying comedy, he was transforming ideas into garage marvels – the most impressive being an airplane motor- propelled VW Beetle ice boat.
Bill is survived by Faye Coffman, his loving wife of 57 years, and his two children – Bill (Kelly) Coffman and Lisa Coffman. He was a proud grandfather of Brooke (Jake) Larson, Evan Coffman, Jacob Fulton, Addison Luber, Marly Luber and Eli Luber, and great grandchildren Jackson Larson and Max Larson. Bill is also survived by his three brothers – Ronald (Susan) Coffman, Donald (Linda) Coffman and James (Sue) Coffman, as well as brother-in-law Michael (JoAnn) Engel, brother-in-law Keith Frasch, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Vernon and Rose Mary Engel, sister-in-law Sandra Frasch and son-in-law Dr. Michael Luber.
A private graveside service will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Mayville.
The family would like to thank the staff of Story Point and Lily Hospice for their compassionate care, as well as the caregivers who helped Bill at home over the years.
