Anthony Tennessen

Anthony “Tony” Tennessen, age 93, passed away on Saturday October 29, 2022 at Prairie Ridge Hospital in Columbus.

Tony was born in Fussville, Wisconsin on June 13, 1929 to the late Henry and Helen Olivia (Reith) Tennessen. He attended Parks Air College in St. Louis, Missouri and served in the Air National Guard during the Korean War. Tony was united in marriage to Joyce Schulteis on September 4, 1954 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Menomonee Falls. The young couple welcomed three children (Mark, Mike, and Teresa) while living in a home Tony built near the Tennessen family homestead in Menomonee Falls. In 1972, the family moved to Dodge County, Wisconsin and Tony established Tennessen Contractors, working as a carpenter until well into his seventies. In his spare time, Tony enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Horicon, where he served as an usher; he also built the altar, crucifix, tabernacle, and other furniture in the church sanctuary. For many years, he was a devoted and loving caregiver for his wife, Joyce, who predeceased him in 2017. Tony lived independently until the end of his life, enjoying frequent visits from family. He died as he lived: decisively, efficiently, with great integrity and humor.

Tony is survived by his children- Mark (Lisa) Tennessen of Beaver Dam, Michael Tennessen (Jennifer Fink) of Brownsville, and Teresa (Leander) Schuett of Horicon; his grandchildren — Alec Tennessen, Tara (Marc) Kent, Nicholas Tennessen, Elizabeth Tennessen, Anthony Schuett (fiancée Anna Condon), Johnathon Schuett, Nathan Fink, Tyler Fink, Adam Fink, and Samuel Fink; and his great granddaughters- Frances and Lydia Kent. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and his dog, Ozzie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; grandson David; brothers Sylverius, Henry, Joseph, and Wilfred “Fritz” Tennessen and sisters Anna Mae Noll, Cyrilla Finch, and Margaret “Mutz” Tennessen.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday November 4 at Sacred Heart Parish in Horicon with Fr. Justin Lopina presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 9 am to 11 am, with Mass to follow. Inurnment will take place at St. Malachy Cemetery in Horicon with military honors to be conducted by the Horicon American Legion Post #157.

Gilbert F. Bennett

Gilbert F. Bennett, age 98, of Horicon passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Matthews of Horicon in Horicon.

A private family inurnment will take place at St. Malachy Cemetery in Horicon.

Gilbert was born the son of Ervin and Martha (Rohloff) Bennett on November 22, 1923, in Horicon. He was a graduate of Horicon High School. Gilbert was united in marriage to Elizabeth J. ‘Betty’ McNamee on April 28, 1951, in Watertown. He had been the field supervisor for the USDA for over 40 years and then went on to be the clerk for the town of Oak Grove. Gilbert also farmed in the town of Oak Grove as well. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon. In his spare time, Gilbert loved to be outdoors and enjoyed helping his daughter Debra in her green house. He also loved to be in the woods on his property and loved to be on the tractor in the field or while mowing his lawn. Gilbert loved his family and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gilbert is survived by his children- Debra Bennett of Horicon and Andrew (Jill) Bennett of Horicon. His grandchildren- Matthew Bennett Kinnard, Jason (Rachael) Bennett, and Ryan (Carine) Bennett. His great grandchildren- Lucas, Amelia, Teddy, and Evelyn Rose. His brother and sisters in law- Mary (Don) Lyons of Mauston, Mike (Irene) McNamee of Wausau, and Anette McNamee of Madison. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, and brothers Alvin, Clarence, and Victor.

Terrence J. McMullan

Terrence J. McMullan, age 75, of Theresa passed away on October 19, 2022, at his home surrounded by his friends.

In honoring Terrence’s wishes- no formal services will be held.

Terrance was born the son of Patrick J. and Lorraine McMullan on September 1, 1947, in Chicago. Terry was a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War. He had worked as a truck driver and had his own transportation company. In his spare time Terry enjoyed working on old cars from the 1960’s. He loved his boarder collies Marni and Maggie.

Felix Eduardo Angel Sanchez

Felix Eduardo Angel Sanchez, age 39, of Mayville, formerly of Mexico City passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee with his family by his side.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 3 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville with the Rev. Fr. Tom Biersack presiding. A visitation will be held from 12 noon until 3 p.m. at the church in Mayville. A continued celebration of Felix’s life will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. at The Meating Place (Mayville Golf Course) on Wednesday following the funeral.

Felix was born the son of Felix Salomón Sanchez Bautista and Teresa Angel Mata on April 10, 1983, in Mexico City, Mexico. Felix came to the United States over 15 years ago.

Felix owned and operated Don Ramon’s Mexican Restaurant in Mayville and West Bend and Don’s Tacos & Tequila in Barton. He was a beloved fixture at the restaurant and was truly a Master of Hospitality. His customers became like family and were truly cherished. Felix’s heart was often worn on his sleeve, and he would go out of his way to help anyone with anything. His constant selflessness and giving were felt by many in the Mayville community. Felix was always there to help the area schools, school children, those struggling with health battles, and on and on. His community in Mayville was so fortunate to have such a loving and caring son in Felix. He will be greatly missed. Felix’s pride and joy was his daughter Tessa. The 2 of them would always find some time, adventure, county fair, dinner, a movie, and maybe a Bucks game! He always found time to make it to all of the kids sports events and of course he loved the Packers!

Felix is survived by his daughter Tessa of Mayville and her mother Kelly Wickert of Mayville. His mother- Teresa of Mexico City. His siblings- Elizabeth Sanchez Angel, Jessica Sanchez Angel, Yesenia Sanchez Angel, Jose Salomón Sanchez Angel, Maria de la Luz Sanchez Angel and Julio Angel Mata. His niece Ayana and nephews Izaiah (Godson) and Cristian.

He was preceded in death by his father Felix.

Brian Kriehn

Brian Kriehn, age 62, of Waukesha passed away unexpectedly on October 13, 2022 at his home.

A memorial gathering in memory of Brian will take place on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Hillside Church in Merrill, 1501 Pier St. Merrill, WI. 54452 at 12 p.m.
Brian was born the son of Eugene and Carolyn (Baltz) Kriehn on March 20, 1960. He had worked for Clean Water Plant in Waukesha for over 36 years. In his spare time, Brian enjoyed cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers.

Brian is survived by his siblings- Douglas Kriehn of Merrill, Sally (Raymond) McNeary of Georgia, Christine (Fred) Jones of Shady Spring, WV., and Thomas (Lisa) Kriehn of Florida. His step siblings- Sheri (Perry) Whitty of Fond du Lac, Carol Petri of Knowles, Jackie (Phil) Marheine of Merrill, Norm (Renee) Petri of Mayville, Kelly (Terry) Westberg of Brantwood, and Tracy Petri of Fond du Lac. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister in law Kathleen, step brother Dennis Petri, and a sister in infancy Julie.

Gary R. Erdmann

Gary R. Erdmann, age 75, of West Bend, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022, at Samaritan Health Center in West Bend.

A memorial service for Gary will take place on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 12 noon at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville with the Rev. Joseph Fisher officiating. A visitation will be held from on Tuesday, October 25 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 12 noon. Military honors will be conducted by the Theresa American Legion Post #270 and Air Force Honor Guard. Inurnment will take place at Union Cemetery in Theresa at a later date.

Gary was born the son of Raymond and Norma (Schultz) Erdmann on December 30, 1946. He was a 1964 graduate of Lomira High School. Gary honorably served his country in the US Air Force serving from 1964-1968 during the Vietnam War and spent a year stationed at De Nang Air Base. He was a proud member of the Theresa American Legion Post #270 and was set to travel on the Honor Flight with his brother, Brian only three days after his death. Gary was a member of Pilgrim Ev. Lutheran Church in West Bend. He was united in marriage to Susan J. Kannal on December 28, 1996, at their home in West Bend. In his spare time, Gary enjoyed softball, the Packers, hunting and fishing, and spending time with his beloved pet dove Boo-Boo. He also enjoyed going to his trailer up north with friends and family.

Gary is survived by his wife- Sue of West Bend. His daughter Amy Erdmann of Oshkosh. His siblings- Brian (Catherine Caspary) Erdmann of Fond du Lac and Lois Erdmann of Lomira. His sister-in-law- Kathy Erdmann of Fond du Lac. Brothers in law- Dean Kannal of West Bend and Thomas (Andrea) Kannal of Madison. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Rodney.

Emma M. Damrow

Emma (nee Arnold) Damrow went home to Heaven where she found the Lord waiting with open arms on Saturday October 15, 2022.

Emma was born October 23, 1937 to Philip and Minna (nee Wilde) Arnold from Kingsley, Michigan. She was one of four children.  She grew up on the family farm in Kingsley.  She attended Concordia Junior College in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she earned her teaching certificate.   Emma taught first grade students until she accepted a job as an administrative assistant at Concordia Theological Seminary.     She found her true love in life when she met Waldemar and they married on May 27, 1984 at St John’s Lutheran Church in Ashippun, WI.  They farmed the balance of their lives together on the family farm where Waldemar had been born, going from a dairy operation, to beef, to cash crops.  They enjoyed traveling together and met many new friends on their trips. She was a faithful member of St Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Iron Ridge where she shared her talents in music along with serving on various committees with her church family.

Emma is survived by her husband of 37 years, her brother Norman Arnold, Kingsley, MI, sister-in-law Elmira Schaefer, Hartford, WI and brother-in-law Roger Kehl, Neosho, WI;  nieces and nephews Danny (Wendy) Arnold, Kingsley, MI; William (Robin) Arnold, Kingsley MI; Norma (Randy) Vyverberg, Mayfield, MI; Cindy (Robert) Blair, Kingsley, MI; Phillip (Tonya) Arnold, Kingsley, MI; David Arnold, Otto, NY; Paul Arnold, Otto, NY; Brian (Jackie) Schaefer, Hartford, WI; Brenda Scharrer, Allenton, WI; Jackie Schaefer, Neosho, WI and Bridget (Chad) Rettler, Neosho, WI, and many great nieces and nephews and a life-time of other family and friends

She was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law Arthur and Erna Damrow, siblings William Arnold, Magdalena (nee Arnold) Luinstra and sisters-in-law Geraldine Arnold and Elvira Kehl and brother-in-law David Schaefer.

A visitation will take place on Sunday October 23, 2022 at St Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Iron Ridge from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. Rev. Larry Mose will officiate.  Interment will take place at the church cemetery.

Mark Rantala

Mark Rantala, age 58, of Mayville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at his home.

A funeral service for Mark will take place on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville with the Rev. Dr. Mark G. Cutler officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 20 from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Mayville.

Mark was born the son of Arthur and Barbara (Elsinger) Rantala on April 22, 1964, in Beaver Dam. He was a 1982 graduate of Mayville High School. Mark was united in marriage to the love of his life, Robin Hoffman on August 16, 1986, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mayville. He was working as a programmer, CNC machinist for Ataco in Cedarburg.

In his spare time, Mark loved the outdoors and especially deer hunting and taking care of the land and cameras where he hunted. He loved playing cribbage with his family, bowling, and loved the time spent with his children and grandchildren. He also loved watching MASH on a nightly basis as well as old westerns, wrestling, and his favorite knife show while sharpening his knives. Mark will be fondly remembered for always being there to lend a hand… whether it was a car that needed fixing or a fence that needed to be mended. Robin, his children, and grandchildren were always number 1. He was always there for them.

Mark is survived by his wife- Robin of Mayville. His children- Grant Rantala of Madison and Kandace (Brandon) Rantala of Milwaukee. His in laws- John (Beverly) Hoffman of Pukaway Lake. His grandfather in law- Mathias Hoffman of Mayville. His grandchildren- Bowyn Rantala and Cameron and Luna Cook. His siblings- Mike (Mary) Rantala of Muskego and Matt Rantala of Mayville. His siblings in law- Penny (Alan) Pipping of Ripon, Scott (Jerry) Hoffman of FL. And Amy Ehlers of GA. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and niece Casey Schwartz and her children Octavius ‘Gus’ and Earl.

Jeffrey L. Fischer

Jeffrey L. Fischer, age 58, of Mayville, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at his home in Mayville.

In honoring Jeff’s wishes- a celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Williamstown Hall in Kekoskee.

Jeff was born the son of Eugene and Janice (Puls) Fischer on December 7, 1963 in Beaver Dam. He was a 1982 graduate of Mayville High School. Jeff had been a longtime employee of Metalcraft of Mayville and worked there for over 28 years. He was united in marriage to Jacquelyn Carlson on August 2, 2020 in Juneau. In his spare time, Jeff enjoyed the outdoors and loved a chance to take a ride on his Harley, his boat, or on a snowmobile. He loved to work on his 1972 Dodge Duster. Jeff also loved an opportunity to sit by a bon fire and enjoy a few beverages and conversation with his friends.

Jeff is survived by his wife- Jacquelyn of Mayville. His mother- Janice Fischer of Mayville. His father Eugene Fischer of Minnesota Junction. His step children- Maxwell Breber of Mayville, and Leyton Lawrence of Great Falls, MT. His siblings- Rodney Fischer of Saxton and Deb (Wendall) Muche of Mayville. His nieces and nephews- Ryan Fischer, Lindsey (Jon) Jonas, Shelby (Justin) Braun, Derek (Lea) Muche, and Courtney (Lucas) Villwock. Further survived by other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his uncle Lynn Fischer.

Virginia Laabs

Virginia R. Laabs (Keup), age 91, of Mesa, AZ. went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa.

A Resurrection Celebration for Virginia will take place at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Laabs officiating. Visitation will take place from 12 noon until the time of the service at 1 at the church in Mayville. Interment will take place at Hochheim Cemetery with a light luncheon to follow at the church.

Viriginia was born the daughter of William and Bertha (Roediger) Keup on March 19, 1931, in Theresa, Wisconsin, and was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Hocheim.) She was a 1949 graduate of Mayville High School. Virginia was united in marriage to Herman Laabs on June 25, 1950. They spent most of their married life in West Bend, where they were active members of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Virginia will be fondly remembered for her tremendous cooking and baking skills, as she loved to make meals for family and friends and many special occasions. She loved music, especially in the church setting. She sang in various church choirs over the years and passed the love of music on to her three sons. After retirement and moving to Arizona, Virginia became an active volunteer alongside Herman, a WW2 pilot, in the Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force at Falcon Field Mesa. They participated in many events there such as Veterans Day activities honoring military pilots from WW2 to present.

Virginia is survived by her sons – Jim (Janis) Laabs of Mesa, AZ., Tom (Susan) Laabs of Mesa, AZ., and Rev. Bruce (Barb) Laabs of Waconia, MN. Her grandchildren – Erin, Ben, Andy, Heather, and Heidi, and great-granddaughter Aurora. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herman in 2015, an infant son, sisters Sylvia Athey and Lois Groth, and brother Martin Keup.
